- An organisation that has its own legal
- identity, distinct from that of its members -
- for example, a company. The term is more
- commonly used in the USA than in
- Britain. In English law corporations can be
- either: a corporation aggregate, consisting
- of a number of members who may vary from time
- to time, as in a company; or a corporation
- sole, consisting of one person and his
- successors, for example a monarch or a
- bishop.
